A distinction is made between animals which are permitted to travel in the cabin (PETC = pet in cabin) and animals which are carried in the hold (AVIH = animal vivant in hold).

Update as of January 30, 2024, daa announces re-introduction of live animal screening facility for passengers departing from Dublin Airport.

Dublin Airport has re-introduced a facility to provide for screening of pets travelling in the aircraft hold (AVIH = animal vivant in hold). This process provides for the use of x-ray equipment deemed suitable for animal screening. While the facility is located in Terminal 1, it caters for passengers travelling from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Please proceed to your designated check-in area, in either terminal, to complete the check in process. Airline staff will be able to advise you on the process once you reach the check-in desk.

Please contact your airline in advance of travelling for advice on preparation for travelling with an animal. There may be restrictions on weight classes permissible.

Guidance for those this service;

• Your pet must be kept in a suitable transport crate, which should be well ventilated, leak-proof and contain the animal securely.
• The maximum dimensions of the enclosure are as follows: Height 950mm – Width 950mm – Length 2m.
• Where your pet will travel depends on its size, weight and the type of animal and whether or not your pet is a special assistance animal.
• Your pet should have sufficient space and be able to move freely.
• It is advisable to allow for additional time to check in with this process.

For overseas travel, dogs and cats may need:

• A valid pet passport
• Microchip
• Particular vaccinations
• A veterinary health certificate
